Ronald McDonald House ~ Greenville, SC

We arrived at the Ronald McDonald House this afternoon after a peaceful drive from home. Ruthie has enjoyed every minute as an only child. We are beginning to wonder if we will ever get her to sleep. Skip and I are so grateful for ALL the help from our family and friends. This would have been a hard trip for the siblings. We laughed on the way up when we realized we are all spread across 5 states tonight: Colorado, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina!

The Ronald McDonald House is amazing and oh my the food is great, the house is very clean and the room is perfect!

Tonight was a big night. At the suggestion of a friend, we had surgery to remove Ruthie's doll's feet. Her reaction was not quite what we expected. As you can see from the picture, she was quite happy. When I used the scissors to cut off the doll's feet she started to laugh and then got real excited as I pulled the stuffing out of the doll. Skip and I are glad she did not break out in tears, but now I am afraid that IF Ruthie ever gets a hold of scissors our dolls may lose their feet. Tomorrow we will take the doll to pre-op and have them bandage the dolls legs and this little doll will follow her through her stay at the hospital ~ I pray it gives her a small understanding when she wakes up from surgery in casts.

I want so badly for her to have some idea that this major change in her life will be hard for a short while and so much better eventually. My heart hurts thinking about the fear she will face the next few days. Precious Ruthie has been through so much in two short years.

Thank you for your prayers! Tomorrow we will have a long day. Ruthie will have pre-op from 8:30 to 12:30 in a small examining room by many specialists.

My heart is anxious about entertaining Ruthie tomorrow. I am excited about Ruthie's future, but at the same time I am very sad about never seeing or playing with her twinkle toes.

  1. ooooo so precious. I'm praying for you even now as you are probably nearing the end of your long morning. I have limited internet this week. STINK. But I will be praying praying praying for you. I LOVE the doll. What a precious way to communicate to her what is going on. I chuckled at what she may do to her other dolls, but hey...who cares? If that's important to her, let her do it! (ok if it is an American Girl doll---maybe you'll have to hold her back--but otherwise go for it!) =)
I'm on pins and needles with excitement and teetering on that edge of anxiousness with you. Praying for sweet sweet peace.
